Gadgets: Logitech Performance Mouse MX with Darkfield Laser Tracking
By Debbie Cook
Glass top desks are chosen for their high end contemporary look. Wireless laptops and Wi-Fi printers complete the look of minimalism – then there is that ugly mouse pad. Before the Logitech Performance Mouse MX and the Logitech Anywhere Mouse MX, a mouse pad was necessary in order for an optical laser mouse to work correctly on a shiny smooth surface such as a glass desk top.
Darkfield Technology Tracks Microscopic Surface Irregularities
Darkfield Laser Tracking is the technology that sets these computer mice apart from the rest and lets them function properly on shiny surfaces such as glass. An ordinary optical mouse depends on slight imperfections on the surface to sense the mouse movement. However, with the addition of Darkfield technology the Performance MX and the Anywhere MX senses even microscopic surface irregularities.
Wireless Computer Mouse Completes a Minimalist Contemporary Look
The Logitech Performance MX and Anywhere MX Computer Mice are wireless – completing a minimalist contemporary look as well as true convenience. A very small wireless receiver inserted into a vacant USB port has the capability to read the Logitech computer mice as well as a Logitech wireless keyboard. As many as six wireless devices can be used from this one single wireless receiver. Unfortunately the wireless mouse needs to be recharged periodically. An included USB cable can be attached to the mouse and a computer providing a charge while in use. If preferred the mouse can be charged via the AC wall adapter.
Scrolling May be too Quick
Scrolling is a function that is found on most any computer mouse. Whether the function is useful or not depends on personal preference. The scroll wheel on the Logitech is very fluid and can cover a lot of screen in a short period of time. No worry though – it can be slowed down by changing the settings. Both up and down and side to side scrolling can be used and can be adjusted to be fast or slow. For those times that each line of text needs to be read thoroughly a simple click-by-click mode can be used.
Comfort is number one
The Logitech Performance Mouse MX and the Anywhere Mouse MX is extremely comfortable to use – even when time drags on and on. These mice are built to fit the hand and many of the functions such as zoom, switching between applications or photos and forward and back can be accomplished with your thumb. Smooth gliding across most any surface may make you (almost) forget that you are using it.
Logitech Performance Mouse MX versus the Logitech Anywhere Mouse MX
Sometimes work has to be done on the go. Those that prefer working with a computer mouse does not necessarily want to tote around a full size computer mouse. Hence, the Anywhere Mouse MX. It is just a smaller version of the Performance Mouse MX. Both include the Darkfield Technology and can be used on most any surface without a mouse pad.
Personal Thoughts
I use a laptop as my primary computer. I also have a glass desktop. Until now I have avoided optical mice and chose to use my mouse pad instead. This mouse has changed my thinking in favor of an external mouse.
